Talk panels with a technician — (863) 238-0866Fix the Section, Not the Whole Door
Sectional doors are built from separate panels hinged together, so one bad section does not always mean a new door. A dented bottom panel from a bumper, a cracked wood section or a rusted lower edge can often be replaced on its own.
The catch is matching. Manufacturers change styles and colors, and older panels can be discontinued. We identify the door's make and model, check whether a matching section is still available, and give you a straight answer. If replacement sections are not an option, minor dents and bracket damage can still be repaired in place.
Panel Damage Worth Fixing
Dents and creases
A dent from a car or ball can weaken the section, and creases near hinges or struts can spread every time the section rolls over the curve.
Cracks and splits
Cracked steel skins, split wood or broken stiles let water in and allow the section to flex, pulling at hinges and rollers.
Rust along the bottom
Standing water and humidity rust out the lowest panel first. Once the steel is eaten through, patching rarely holds and the section needs replacing.
How Panel Work Gets Done
We start by deciding what can be saved and what can't.
- 1
Identify the door
Make, model, width, height and panel design are recorded so any replacement section lines up with the rest of the door.
- 2
Repair or swap the section
Minor damage and loose hardware are fixed in place. A section beyond repair is removed and the new one hung with fresh hinges and rollers.
- 3
Realign and rebalance
Panel changes alter the door's weight, so spring tension is adjusted, the door is squared in the opening, and the opener is retested.
Panel Repair Questions
- Can you match my existing panels?
- Often, yes, if the manufacturer still makes that design. We read the door's label or measure the sections to identify it. Older or discontinued doors can be harder, and color may differ slightly as the old finish has faded. When a good match is not possible, we will say so.
- When is a new door the better choice?
- If two or more sections are badly damaged, the door is rusted throughout, or matching panels are no longer made, replacing the whole door is usually the smarter spend. A new door also lets you move to an insulated or wind-rated model rather than patching an older one.
- Does replacing a panel affect a wind-rated door?
- It can. A wind-rated door is tested as a complete assembly, including its struts and reinforcement. Replacement sections should be the matching parts from the same manufacturer, with any reinforcing struts reinstalled, so the door still performs as it was approved. We check this before ordering anything.
