Six Signs Your Door Needs a Look
Garage doors rarely quit without warning. Catch these early and the repair is usually smaller.
It got louder
Grinding, popping or squealing on every trip points to worn rollers, dry hinges or a tired spring.
It feels heavy
Pull the release and lift by hand. A door that fights you has lost spring tension.
It sits crooked
One side lower than the other usually means a cable has slipped off its drum.
It stops and reverses
The photo-eye sensors are blocked, dirty or knocked out of line.
Gaps at the bottom
Daylight under the door means the bottom seal has cracked or shrunk.
The opener strains
An opener that hums or labors is often lifting a door the springs no longer carry.
How we work
Why Moore Haven Homeowners Call Us
Nothing fancy. Just habits that keep a repair from turning into a second visit.
- 1
Repair first
Most doors need a part, not a replacement. You only hear about a new door when fixing the old one would not be safe.
- 2
Matched parts
Spring wire, cable length and roller type follow your door's size and weight, which is why the fix holds up.
- 3
Careful in your garage
Cars, shelves and floors get covered or moved out of the way before tools come out.
- 4
Straight answers
You get a plain description of what failed and what the repair involves, with the cost before work begins.
Three Steps, Start to Finish
- 1
Call and describe it
Tell us what the door is doing and what you heard. That narrows down the parts to bring.
- 2
Inspect and repair
The technician checks the whole system, explains the fix and its cost, then does the work once you say go.
- 3
Balance and test
Tension set, moving parts lubricated, sensors aligned and the auto-reverse tested while you watch.

Common Garage Door Questions
- My opener runs but the door doesn't move. What's wrong?
- Usually one of three things: a broken spring leaving the door too heavy to lift, a stripped drive gear inside the opener, or the opener's trolley disconnected from the door. Listen for a hum with no movement and look for a gap in the spring above the door before calling.
- What's the usual lifespan of a garage door spring?
- Most standard springs are built for about 10,000 open-and-close cycles. Twice a day, that's roughly seven to ten years. Heavy use, humidity and rust shorten it, and longer-life springs rated for more cycles are an option when yours are replaced.
- How do I open the door when the power is out?
- Pull the red emergency release cord hanging from the opener rail, then lift the door by hand. If the springs are working, the door should feel light. If it feels like dead weight, leave it down and call, because a spring has likely failed.
- How often should I have the door serviced?
- Plan on a tune-up every year. The visit covers a balance test, a look at springs and cables, lubrication of hinges and rollers, tightening of loose hardware and a safety check on the opener. Small adjustments now save bigger repairs later.
- What's the difference between torsion and extension springs?
- Torsion springs mount on a bar above the door and twist to lift it. Extension springs run alongside the horizontal tracks and stretch. Torsion setups tend to run smoother and last longer, and older doors can often be converted.
- Is it safe to use the door with a frayed cable?
- No. A frayed cable can snap without warning and drop one side of the door. Keep the door closed, keep cars out of the way and have both cables replaced before using it again.
- Do you work on all brands?
- Yes. We repair and replace parts on doors and openers from the common makers, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, Clopay and Amarr. Have the brand handy when you call if you can find the label.
